Mani and Lola: September 2018 Unboxing

Ah September – The month where we welcomed Autumn (unlike the High Street who were one step ahead bringing out their Coats in August!). I used to dread this time of year – when the alarm goes off and it is still dark outside, you come home from work and yep, it’s still dark!

In the last couple of years my attitude has completely changed. Now, I can’t wait to do an annual trip to Primark, New Look and H&M to stock up on cosy Jumpers, Cardigans and Pyjamas…swapping up Coco Pop Breakfasts and Ham Sandwich Lunches for Weetabix and Tomato Soup.

Naturally, my choice of nail polish also changes. Those hot pinks and ‘Ice Cream’ pastels tend to take a back seat as the darker shades and glamourous glitters take to the stage.

This month’s Mani and Lola edit has firmly got me in the mood for the change in season, so let’s check out what was in the box!

China Glaze Polish in Haute & Heavy

This gunmetal grey is perfect for Hallowe’en and Christmas Party season – definitely a polish that brings out your inner Vamp! It was lovely to apply (*spoiler alert* it’s a one-coat Wonder) and being highly pigmented it’s fairly durable against the elements… although I always recommend using a Top Coat (Seche Vite is my top coat of choice).

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Dree

I must say that Olive this one (Geddit? No? Never mind…). Dree by Zoya is the perfect Khaki green that has Autumn written all over it. As with most polishes it takes two coats to achieve the desired look and like all Zoya polishes it is Vegan-friendly (if that’s your thing).

I would be great to use this in creating some Camouflage nail art! Thanks to Mani and Lola for introducing me to this great brand!

Jessica Custom Nail Colour in Cinnamon Kiss

It’s been a while since I have had a bottle of Jessica in my collection so this was a lovely surprise during the unboxing. This cosmic red almost reminds me of something that would have been worn by the Witches from Hocus Pocus! It’s not quite festive, but definitely a polish that will keep you going until you switch to a Candy Cane Red. Like the Haute & Heavy, one coat was all I needed for a nice glossy finish.

OPI Infinite Shine Polish in Tiramisu for Two

Over the last few months I have collected a few nude shades and whilst CND’s 2018 Nude collection was and still is my favourite, I’m yet to see what the fuss is about with Tiramisu for Two. OPI’s polishes have always been high quality and glossy so unfortunately I’m not convinced that the Infinite Shine range is anything to shout about. The same can be said for their Gel Polish range, I know that it exists, but I feel it’s struggled to compete with the likes of Shellac, Gelish and Bluesky. Whilst Tiramisu for Two is a nice shade, I wasn’t keen on its consistency which felt a fair bit thicker than I expected. If I was to incorporate this into a Nail Art Design then I definitely would add some black Polka dots!

Mavala Nail Polish Remover

Like Glitter, dark colours can be a pain to remove, I usually dread it and sometimes the experience completely puts me off using certain polishes altogether. I always end up with the polish on the Skin around my Nails, or it takes ages to come off. Either way, if (like me) you like to take photos of your latest Manicure, Purple fingers with a fresh French finish is not a good look!

I am however really impressed with this remover by Mavala! Don’t be fooled by this teeny bottle (like I was) because a little goes a long way and I can honestly say that it takes very little effort to instantly remove the darkest of colours.

I am yet to test it on removing Glitter Polish although I’d like to do a little experiment using a few different brands.

Mani and Lola were also kind enough to throw in a new Nail File, which is very handy as I don’t think you can ever have too many of those!

Here’s a quick snap of this month’s Polishes in all their glory!

As always if you want to get your hands on any of these then you can buy them on Nail Polish Direct’s website.

If you’d like to join me and other fellow Nail addicts in receiving a monthly treat, you can subscribe to Mani and Lola directly! On their website, there are a range of different options. I initially signed up for a One month trial but after receiving June’s box I was hooked! I have provided more of an introduction to the Mani and Lola experience in the post linked above.

Thanks for reading!
